The Aerial Film Company was proud to deliver aerial cinematography for the upcoming Netflix Apex survival thriller, directed by Baltasar Kormákur and starring Charlize Theron and Taron Egerton. Positioned as one of the most anticipated action films of 2026, Apex has already generated significant industry buzz, with early coverage highlighting its ambitious scale, physical performances, and striking natural environments that play as much a role in the story as the characters themselves.

Working at the sharp end of that vision, our team was tasked with capturing the aerial language that would help define the world of the film. Over the course of an intensive week of production in Norway, we operated in and around the dramatic terrain of the Troll Wall, one of Europe’s most imposing vertical rock faces. These sequences form a key part of the film’s visual identity, providing both the scale and tension that underpin its narrative. The production demanded not just beauty, but a sense of exposure, danger and raw physicality.

Equipped with the Shotover K1 stabilised system, we delivered both single camera hero shots and multi-camera array work designed to support visual effects and high-resolution plate capture. This hybrid approach allowed the filmmakers to seamlessly blend practical aerial cinematography with the broader visual design of the film, ensuring continuity between live-action sequences and post-production environments. The Shotover K1’s ability to maintain stability in challenging alpine conditions proved critical, particularly when operating in close proximity to sheer rock faces and rapidly shifting weather systems.

Aerial Director of Photography Phil Arntz led the operation on location, working closely with the film’s creative team. Alongside Shotover technician Valentin Signargout, the team executed a series of technically demanding flights that balanced performance, safety and visual ambition. The goal was not simply to document the landscape, but to immerse the audience within it, to make the terrain feel vast, unforgiving and ever-present.

As highlighted in early press coverage and interviews surrounding the production, Apex places a strong emphasis on realism and physical storytelling, with Charlize Theron performing many of her own stunts against these formidable backdrops. Our aerial work plays a crucial role in supporting that authenticity, framing the action within environments that feel both cinematic and real. From sweeping establishing shots that introduce the scale of the world, to tightly controlled dynamic passes that heighten moments of pursuit and tension, the aerial sequences help anchor the film’s tone from its very first frames.

This project represents a continuation of our commitment to delivering world-class aerial cinematography for major feature productions. By combining advanced stabilisation technology, multi-camera workflows and an experienced aerial team, we were able to help bring the world of Apex to life from above, contributing to a film that is already being recognised as a standout addition to Netflix’s global slate.
