At the Aerial Film Company, we offer the complete range of aerial filming services for film productions. We can provide absolutely everything from unbeatable aerial filming with helicopters, drones and planes, to safe helicopter stunts, to supplying classic and vintage aircraft (both airworthy and prop).
Born from a partnership with GB Helicopters, the Aerial Film Company was created by combining our expertise. Together we have experience working on big budget film and TV productions, music videos and commercials. All this means you can have just one company to work with for all your aerial filming needs.
We provide high-end aerial filming using both single and twin-engine helicopters. They can be mounted with a range of camera systems that allow us to work on wide variety of productions, from commercials using the GSS to feature films with the Shotover K1. We’re fully licenced by the CAA and can provide the helicopters, pilots, gyro-stabilised camera systems, camera operators and an aerial coordinator.
Drones have brought a new dimension to aerial filming with battery life and payload lift capability increasing rapidly. Our primary drone is the Freefly Alta 8, capable of lifting 9.1 kg payload which typically allows us to use the RED Helium/Monstro or the ARRI Alexa Mini cameras. For lighter payloads we operate the DJI Inspire II Pro Cinema drone with the X7 camera.
When a project requires speeds over 120kts, we have planes that can reach +400kts and reach an altitude of 28,000ft. Our fast camera platforms can be mounted with a GSS C520 and fitted with the very latest RED & ARRI ALEXA cameras. Our aircraft can film a range of scenarios from cruising passenger planes to dogfighting military jets.
From mock-ups (bucks) to flight ready, we can source a wide selection of aircraft. From WWI biplane fighters through to modern business jets, airliners, cargo aircraft, seaplanes and military aircraft. Working closely with the director and art department we ensure all aircraft match the creative vision and are an accurate representation of the type and era.
We’re one of a very small number of operators that can gain CAA permission to carry out aerial stunts. So far we’ve carried out long lining with Harry Styles, rappelling with Bear Grylls and the recruits on SAS: Who Dares Wins and whole host of other celebrities. All stunts are carried out to meet stringent safety requirements, with careful planning keeping risks to a minimum.
As well as providing aerial filming services, our aircraft can be utilised to transfer cast, crew and production equipment, quickly and safely from one location to another. This is especially useful if filming locations are hard to reach. We can also position set pieces or props, such as dropping a burning, scale model warbird into the sea.
