Mission: Impossible The Final Reckoning

Description

For one of our most ambitious and technically demanding projects to date, The Aerial Film Company delivered the complete suite of aerial filming services for Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, starring Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt.

The production required an unprecedented level of precision, coordination and trust, particularly during the now-iconic biplane aerial sequence. Our team worked closely with director Christopher McQuarrie and Tom Cruise over a three-year period to plan, rehearse and execute complex aerial filming that pushed the boundaries of what is possible with real aircraft and practical stunts.

To capture these sequences, we deployed multiple gyro-stabilised camera systems, including Shotover K1, F1 and M1, integrated across both helicopter and fixed-wing platforms. This allowed us to film high-speed, close-proximity aerial action while maintaining absolute stability and repeatability, essential when working at the scale and intensity demanded by the Mission: Impossible franchise.

Our aerial filming role extended far beyond camera capture alone. In addition to principal photography, we supplied aerial stunt helicopters and specialist teams, safety helicopters, VFX camera arrays, and VIP transport for cast and key crew. Every element was coordinated as part of a fully integrated aerial unit, ensuring safety, efficiency and creative flexibility throughout production.

The biplane sequences in particular required meticulous choreography between aircraft, camera platforms and performers. These scenes were filmed practically, relying on precise flying, close collaboration between camera pilot and aerial DOP, and extensive pre-visualisation to achieve the final on-screen result.

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning represents the culmination of years of planning, trust and technical execution. It stands as one of the most complex aerial filming projects we have ever undertaken, and we are proud to have played a central role in bringing these sequences to the big screen.

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning debuted in cinemas on 23 May 2025.
